Don’t think you’ll find any arguments about the wagoneer being better than the XJ. It’s just more expensive and much harder to find.

The wagoneer is cool, but the only way I can get one for the same price as my XJ is to buy 300 cans of soup or maybe a used refrigerator on craigslist. As for the others I don’t know, but I will agree with 3.

I agree that the SJ is more cool than an XJ, but I don’t think I’d want to live with one. Mostly because big, slow, carbs, and single-digit mpg. But having owned four unibody Jeeps, I may be a little biased.

The Cherokee shown is in a different class and size of an XJ. I actually looked at a Grand Wagoneer before I bought an XJ. I am 50/50 as to wether I should have gotten the grand. I probably would have tore it up, similar to the XJ I bought. I was downgrading from a 90 V8 suburban, so I wanted a 6 cyl. instead of another V8 gas hog. As is the XJ only gets a few better mpg than the Burban did.

Life is full of choices.

I think part of this is that I’m viewing this through the lense of an American; compared to the Westmoreland Rabbits, Chevy Chevette/Vega, AMC Gremlin/Pacer, Ford Pinto and Chrysler Omnirizon, this was truly near the top of it’s class, second only (IMO) to the Renault Le Car and Honda Civic. However, I do like all of those other cars I mentioned, so maybe I just have poor taste :P

Yes

I’ve owned 3 XJs, a ZJ, and 2 WJs... All hunks of shit. I love them all, but they’re hunks of shit. And gas mileage? I guess that’s valid if you leave your XJ 100% stock. Add big tires, and that goes to shit. My Suburban gets better mileage than my 100% stock V8 WJ, too.

Also, I don’t get the appeal of the Type 2. It’s just an smaller, slower, uncomfortable, poorer-driving, less reliable mini van. How do you drive one without living in fear of being rear-ended while tapped out at 45 mph on the highway?

I admit, I have always found the first gen 626 coupe to be deceptively gorgeous; kind of a girl-next-door sort of, ‘oh hey she’s really beautiful has she always been this beautiful’ upon the post-puberty glance.

One of my (many) automotive pipe dreams has been to find a rust-free example (DREAM OVER, NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN), then mod as such:

-modern(er) suspension

-install roll cage for chassis rigidity

-weld sheet metal over any space between trunk and passenger compartment (more rigidity

-install 20B from a wrecked Eunos Cosmo (look, this dream was already dead in the water as soon as I said ‘rust free’)

-Watanabes or Mini-lites, of course

-strip exterior paint down to bare metal, then polish and clear coat for a pseudo-DeLorean look

It’s kind of like fantasizing about marrying Emma Stone. You know it’s NEVER going to happen, but you still like to imagine how much fun it would be. (Lip Sync Battle every day, what up?)
